With its refined case and striking blue ceramic bezel, this new Planet Ocean 600M reinvents the look of the OMEGA diver's watch. Its matte black dial, perfect readability, and Master Chronometer caliber 8912 make it a piece that is as sporty as it is refined.
A new era for the Planet Ocean
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Planet Ocean, OMEGA unveils a radically redesigned fourth generation that marks a clear break from the historical codes of the collection. A more angular case, noticeably slimmer profile, internal titanium architecture and the disappearance of the helium valve: this new Planet Ocean confidently embraces modernity while preserving the technical spirit that built its reputation.
In this blue version, the collection returns to one of its most important signatures. Blue is indeed an essential colour in OMEGA’s history, deeply linked to the Seamaster universe. Here, it pairs beautifully with the more architectural lines of this fourth generation, revealing a personality that is balanced, elegant and sporty at once. A true “mini Ultra Deep” for everyday wear, blending tradition and innovation with remarkable mastery.
A powerful heritage, continually reinvented
Since its launch in 2005, the Planet Ocean has held a unique place in the Seamaster galaxy: that of a modern professional diver, able to combine pure performance with a strong stylistic identity. Initially inspired by the language of the 1960s Seamaster 300 models, it quickly established itself as a pillar of deep mechanical diving thanks to its 600-meter water resistance, Broad Arrow hands and instantly recognisable matte black dial.
Over the years, the Planet Ocean has undergone three major evolutions before reaching this fourth generation.
– In 2005, the first series laid the foundations: muscular design, helium valve, Arabic numerals, rugged 600M DNA.
– In 2011, OMEGA introduced ceramic, Liquidmetal technology and next-generation calibres, strengthening the technical dimension of the collection.
– In 2016, the third generation brought Master Chronometer certification, improved magnetic resistance and more refined construction, while maintaining a massive silhouette.
With the 2025 generation, OMEGA is implementing a far deeper transformation. The case is slimmer, the valve disappears, and the internal architecture changes with a titanium ring inspired by the Ultra Deep. It is the first time the Planet Ocean has revisited its foundations so extensively, not just the details.
This evolution is also part of a broader heritage, drawing from the angular designs of the Seamaster Mayol 120M, SHOM and Baby Ploprof models from the 1970s to the 1990s. The black versions thus reconnect with the original vocation of the line: a sober, legible, robust, uncompromising instrument watch, perfectly faithful to the Planet Ocean’s vision since its beginnings.
A fully reimagined design
The fourth generation of the Planet Ocean introduces a completely new aesthetic language for the collection. The case now features much more angular lines, with sharp edges, contrasting surfaces and polished bevels that catch the light elegantly. The whole design abandons the usual curves in favour of a more architectural, more technical and resolutely contemporary silhouette.
The diameter returns to 42 mm, but the proportions are deeply transformed: thickness is now just 13.79 mm, over two millimetres less than the previous generation. The sapphire crystal becomes flat, further enhancing the visual slimming effect. Beneath this redesigned structure, an internal titanium ring reinforces structural rigidity and ensures 600-meter resistance without the need for the traditional helium valve.
The blue ceramic bezel benefits from significantly improved finishing: more pronounced knurling, better grip and a white enamel dive scale offering exceptional contrast for immediate readability. On the back, a screwed Grade 5 titanium caseback replaces the sapphire crystal used in previous generations. Lighter, stronger and more in tune with the model’s professional spirit, it reinforces the toolwatch identity that has defined the Planet Ocean for two decades.
A dial designed for absolute legibility
The dial retains the Planet Ocean’s original DNA while adopting a more modern execution, consistent with the new angular aesthetic of the case. Fully matte, it avoids parasitic reflections and ensures immediate readability, even in the most demanding conditions.
The applied, rhodium-plated, faceted hour markers gain presence and precision. They are filled with Super-LumiNova offering powerful and long-lasting luminosity. The Broad Arrow hands, emblematic of the collection, retain their characteristic shape, further optimised for intuitive reading.
The Arabic numerals, presented here in matte white to echo the enamelled bezel, adopt a new squarer, more tensioned typography, with open “6” and “9”. This subtly modernises the aesthetic while reinforcing the model’s visual coherence.
Underwater and in the dark, reading is instinctive: the bi-colour luminescence system immediately differentiates essential information, with the hour markers and hour hand glowing blue, while the minute hand and dive marker glow green. A functional choice designed for divers.
Finally, the absence of a date window enhances the dial’s overall balance and refocuses attention on pure functionality, true to the spirit of an instrument watch.
A Master Chronometer movement built to last
At the heart of this fourth generation beats the calibre 8912, one of the most accomplished movements developed by OMEGA. Derived from the family used in the Ultra Deep, it embodies the mechanical robustness and extreme precision found in the brand’s professional watches.
This automatic movement relies on a dual-barrel architecture that delivers a 60-hour power reserve with stable and even energy distribution. Its frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour, combined with the famous three-level Co-Axial escapement, ensures remarkable reliability and excellent long-term performance.
Fully certified Master Chronometer by METAS, it meets the industry’s most demanding standards:
– Resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss
– Extremely strict precision, even in real-world conditions
– Zero tolerance for performance deviations
The Si14 silicon balance spring and free-sprung balance improve shock resistance, while the Time Zone function allows independent hour adjustment, practical for travel. This calibre is not only high-performing: it is built to accompany the watch through every situation, from the city to extreme environments.
Even concealed behind the titanium caseback, its finishing remains exemplary: bridges decorated with Arabesque waves, rhodium-plated rotor and blackened screws showcase OMEGA’s craftsmanship.
An entirely redesigned steel bracelet for greater comfort and precision
The steel bracelet of this new Planet Ocean has been completely redesigned to match the evolution of the case. Thinner, more angular and better articulated, it adopts a three-link flat construction combining satin-brushed finishes with polished details. This sharper geometry, perfectly aligned with the case’s lines, reinforces the modern identity of this generation.
Thanks to its shorter first link and almost seamless integration with the case, wrist comfort is significantly enhanced. OMEGA has also redesigned the folding clasp, now equipped with a six-position micro-adjustment system and a discreet yet efficient dive extension. This design ensures optimal stability in all conditions: in the city, underwater or during sportier use.
The final result is a technical, high-quality bracelet perfectly consistent with the professional vocation of the Planet Ocean.
The maturity of a diving icon
With this fourth generation, OMEGA profoundly redefines the Planet Ocean’s personality. More technical, more compact and resolutely more angular, it nevertheless retains the essence of the line since 2005: exemplary robustness, impeccable legibility and a fully professional vocation. The integration of an internal titanium ring, the significant slimming of the case and the removal of the helium valve reflect a more modern, more coherent approach clearly focused on efficiency.
In their blue versions, these new Planet Ocean models embody a rare balance: that of a pure and demanding instrument watch enhanced with a more refined aesthetic dimension. Sporty without ostentation, technical yet incredibly wearable, it fully embraces its role as a contemporary diving icon. A major evolution that propels the Planet Ocean into a new era without ever denying the heritage that built its legend.
