With its matte black dial, deep ceramic bezel, and stylish rubber strap, this Planet Ocean 600M combines simplicity and efficiency. Slimmer and more balanced than ever, it embodies all of OMEGA's expertise in a pure and contemporary diver's watch.
A New Era for the Planet Ocean
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Planet Ocean, OMEGA unveils a fourth generation that disrupts everything we thought we knew about its professional dive watch. A fully redesigned case, sharper lines, a slimmer profile, a titanium inner structure, and the disappearance of the iconic helium escape valve — this new-generation Planet Ocean marks a major shift while remaining true to its technical DNA.
Inspired by the Ultra Deep, from which it borrows the internal ring concept — but in a far more wearable format — it stands as a true “mini Ultra Deep” designed for everyday use. In these black versions, it embraces a powerful and timeless sobriety, perfectly aligned with the collection’s original identity.
A Powerful Heritage, Constantly Reinvented
Since its launch in 2005, the Planet Ocean has held a unique place within the Seamaster universe: a modern professional diver capable of combining pure performance with a strong stylistic identity. Originally inspired by the design language of the 1960s Seamaster 300, it quickly became a pillar of deep-sea mechanical watchmaking thanks to its 600-meter water resistance, Broad Arrow hands, and instantly recognizable matte black dial.
The Planet Ocean has undergone three major evolutions before reaching this fourth generation.
– In 2005, the first series set the tone with a muscular design, helium valve, Arabic numerals, and a bold 600M toolwatch identity.
– In 2011, OMEGA introduced ceramic, Liquidmetal technology, and new-generation calibres, strengthening the technical dimension of the collection.
– In 2016, the third generation brought Master Chronometer certification, enhanced magnetic resistance, and refined construction, while keeping a notably robust silhouette.
With the 2025 generation, OMEGA initiates a far deeper transformation. The case becomes slimmer, the valve disappears, and the internal architecture evolves with a titanium ring inspired by the Ultra Deep. It is the first time the Planet Ocean has revisited its foundations so thoroughly rather than refining details.
This evolution also draws from a broader heritage, taking inspiration from the angular designs of the Mayol 120M, the SHOM, and the Baby Ploprof Seamaster models of the 1970s to 1990s. The black versions reconnect with the original purpose of the line: a sober, legible, robust, no-nonsense instrument watch, perfectly faithful to the Planet Ocean’s identity since its beginnings.
A Completely Reimagined Design
The fourth-generation Planet Ocean introduces an entirely new aesthetic language to the collection. The case now adopts far more angular lines, with sharp edges, contrasting surfaces, and polished facets that catch the light elegantly. Gone are the traditional curves — the silhouette is now more architectural, more technical, and decidedly contemporary.
The diameter returns to 42 mm, but the proportions have been deeply reworked: thickness drops to just 13.79 mm, more than two millimeters less than the previous generation. The sapphire crystal is now flat, reinforcing this visual slimming effect. Beneath this redesigned exterior, a titanium inner ring enhances structural rigidity and guarantees 600-meter resistance without requiring the traditional helium escape valve.
The black ceramic bezel also benefits from a more assertive approach: sharper knurling, improved grip, and a white enamel diving scale ensure flawless readability. On the back, a Grade 5 titanium screw-down caseback replaces the sapphire crystal, reducing weight while restoring the toolwatch spirit that has shaped the Planet Ocean’s character for two decades.
A Dial Designed for Absolute Legibility
The dial of the black versions preserves the Planet Ocean’s original DNA while adopting a more modern execution aligned with the angular aesthetic of the new case. Fully matte, it eliminates glare and ensures instant readability even in the harshest conditions.
The applied rhodium-plated, faceted hour markers gain presence and refinement, filled with powerful and long-lasting Super-LumiNova. The emblematic Broad Arrow hands retain their signature profile, optimised once again for intuitive reading.
The Arabic numerals evolve significantly: their squarer, more tensioned typography — now openworked for the 6 and 9 — perfectly matches the new technical aesthetic. As on the early models, they structure the dial visually, but with a confidently modern approach.
Underwater or in darkness, readability is instantaneous: the bi-colour luminescence separates essential information at a glance, with the hour markers and hour hand shining blue, while the minute hand and diving pip glow green — a functional choice designed for divers.
Finally, the absence of a date window reinforces the visual balance and focuses attention on pure functionality, fully in line with the spirit of a purpose-built instrument watch.
A Master Chronometer Movement Built to Last
Beating inside this fourth generation is the calibre 8912, one of OMEGA’s most accomplished movements. Derived from the family used in the Ultra Deep, it embodies the mechanical robustness and extreme precision expected from the brand’s professional instruments.
This automatic movement is built around a twin-barrel architecture delivering a 60-hour power reserve with stable and consistent performance. Its 25,200-vph frequency combined with the three-level Co-Axial escapement ensures remarkable reliability and long-term stability.
Fully certified Master Chronometer by METAS, it meets the industry’s highest standards:
– Magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss
– Exceptional accuracy in real-world conditions
– Zero tolerance for performance deviation
The Si14 silicon balance spring and free-sprung balance enhance shock resistance, while the Time-Zone function allows independent hour adjustment — ideal for travel. This calibre is not only high-performance: it is engineered to accompany the watch anywhere, from city life to extreme environments.
Even hidden beneath the titanium caseback, the finishing remains exemplary: arabesque Geneva waves, rhodium-plated rotor and bridges, and blackened screws all showcase OMEGA’s craftsmanship.
A More Sporty, Lightweight and Perfectly Integrated Rubber Version
Fitted on a black rubber strap, this Planet Ocean reveals an even more sporty and versatile personality. The strap integrates seamlessly with the case thanks to steel end links designed to follow the new angular lines of the watch. This construction creates a strong sense of visual unity and enhances the presence of the model.
The rubber features a technical pattern and dual-textured finish, echoing the codes of professional dive watches while ensuring excellent comfort. Soft, pleasant to wear and perfectly stable, it naturally follows the wrist’s movements. The secure folding clasp provides flawless support and is ideally suited for everyday use.
Together, these elements give the watch a lighter, more dynamic character clearly built for action, while preserving the sober, professional aesthetic that defines the black versions.
The Maturity of a Diving Icon
With this fourth generation, OMEGA profoundly redefines the Planet Ocean’s identity. More technical, more compact, more angular, it preserves the legendary robustness and exceptional readability that built the reputation of the line, while adopting a contemporary and masterfully controlled aesthetic. The integration of titanium into the case structure, the slimmer profile, and the removal of the helium valve all reflect a modernised philosophy focused on efficiency and coherence.
In their black configurations, these new Planet Ocean models return to the collection’s core essence: a demanding, sober, high-performance instrument watch built to last. More wearable than ever, yet still thoroughly professional, it embodies the perfect balance between innovation, tradition, and functionality. A major milestone for one of the most iconic dive watches of the 21st century.
