Everything you need to know about OMEGA watches
Founded in 1848 by Louis Brandt in La Chaux-de-Fonds, OMEGA is one of the world's most prestigious Swiss watch manufactures. Based in Biel/Bienne since 1880, the Maison has distinguished itself through numerous technical innovations, its historic role in sports timekeeping, its long-standing partnership with the Olympic Games, the watches that accompanied NASA's lunar missions, and its presence on James Bond's wrist since 1995. Today, OMEGA is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and its high-precision mechanical movements.
Choosing an OMEGA watch means choosing a Swiss timepiece that combines innovation, precision and heritage. The Manufacture develops its own Co-Axial Master Chronometer movements, certified by METAS, offering exceptional precision and outstanding resistance to magnetic fields. OMEGA collections include iconic chronographs, diving watches and elegant dress watches, meeting the expectations of both enthusiasts and collectors.
OMEGA's signature collections include the Speedmaster, famous for its role in space exploration, the Seamaster, one of the world's most iconic diving watches, the elegant Constellation, and the refined De Ville. Each collection represents a distinct facet of OMEGA's watchmaking expertise and heritage.
OMEGA's Master Chronometer movements are certified by METAS (the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). After first obtaining COSC chronometer certification, each movement and each completed watch undergo a demanding series of tests evaluating precision, power reserve, water resistance and resistance to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. Today, the Master Chronometer certification is regarded as one of the most rigorous standards in the watchmaking industry.
The OMEGA Speedmaster made history after being qualified by NASA for all manned space missions in 1965. On 21 July 1969, it became the first watch worn on the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission. Since then, the Speedmaster Professional has been known as the "Moonwatch" and remains one of the most legendary chronographs ever created.
The OMEGA Seamaster is one of the world's most celebrated diving watch collections. Since 1995, it has also been worn by James Bond, reinforcing its iconic status. Available as the Seamaster Diver 300M, Planet Ocean, Aqua Terra and Heritage models, it combines exceptional robustness, water resistance, Master Chronometer movements and timeless design.
Introduced into serial production by OMEGA in 1999, the Co-Axial escapement, invented by George Daniels, significantly reduces friction within the movement. This innovation improves long-term chronometric stability, limits wear on key components and extends service intervals. Today, it equips almost every mechanical movement produced by the Manufacture.
