Unlike a lacquered or painted dial, its appearance is achieved through a sophisticated process combining a silver-toned plating, a transparent protective layer and an ultra-precise finishing treatment. The surface work remains faithful to Grand Seiko codes: an alternation of mirror-polished and satin-brushed finishes, crisp edges and precise geometry. The compactness of the case intensifies the perception of quality—each facet feels denser, more concentrated.

The stainless steel bracelet adopts a tapered five-link construction, composed of two polished links and three satin-brushed links, creating a subtle balance between brilliance and restraint. The triple-fold clasp with push-button release ensures everyday security and comfort.

Calibre 9F51: high precision in its most compact form

At the heart of the SBGX359 beats the 9F51 calibre, the first new development within the 9F family in six years.

Since 1993, the 9F series has pursued a clear ambition: to bring quartz watchmaking to the highest level of excellence. Far from being a standard industrial movement, each 9F calibre is fully assembled by hand at the Shinshu Watch Studio, to standards comparable to those of high-end mechanical watchmaking.

The 9F51 retains all the technical signatures that made the series’ reputation:

• Accuracy of ±10 seconds per year
• An in-house quartz oscillator aged for three months to stabilise performance
• Thermal compensation performed 540 times per day to adjust for temperature variations
• Twin Pulse Control Motor delivering sufficient torque to drive broad, sharply defined hands
• Backlash Auto-Adjust Mechanism eliminating any unwanted vibration of the seconds hand

Its distinctive feature lies in a more compact architecture: with a diameter reduced by 0.6 mm compared to the 9F61 calibre, it enables the design of a 33 mm case while preserving the emblematic performance of the 9F line.

The result is rare on the market: a thin, elegant and perfectly proportioned watch offering annual accuracy that the vast majority of mechanical watches cannot match.
