Jaeger-Lecoultre Reverso Squadra Hometime automatic Full Set 2007
- NEW
Designed for the man on the move, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Hometime embodies a sportier, more contemporary, and more assertive vision of the Reverso. With its square case, powerful presence on the wrist, and cleverly integrated second time zone complication, this Reverso stands apart. Now discontinued but already sought after, it perfectly represents Jaeger-LeCoultre's bold approach to watchmaking in the mid-2000s.
A brief history
In 2006, Jaeger-LeCoultre celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Reverso by taking everyone by surprise. Rather than offering yet another heritage reinterpretation of the famous Art Deco case, the Manufacture chose to explore an entirely new facet: a resolutely modern, masculine and sporty Reverso. Thus, the Reverso Squadra was born.
Its name, borrowed from Italian, evokes both the idea of a team and the square geometry of the case. For the first time in its history, the Reverso adopted a boldly square silhouette, while retaining its ingenious reversible case patented in the 1930s. This concept was not entirely new, however: from the outset, Jaeger-LeCoultre had envisioned two Reverso designs—one rectangular, which would become iconic, and the other square, which remained dormant for more than seven decades.
With the Squadra, this long-shelved vision finally took shape. The proportions gained presence, the lines became more assertive, and the finishes more robust. The Reverso Squadra was no longer just an elegant watch: it was designed to accompany an active, urban and international lifestyle, without ever renouncing the Manufacture’s technical and aesthetic DNA.
The Squadra collection revolves around useful, contemporary complications—second time zone, chronograph, world time—and was aimed at a new generation of Jaeger-LeCoultre enthusiasts seeking a more expressive and engaged Reverso. It replaced the Reverso Gran’Sport as the “sport” Reverso within the catalogue.
Produced between 2006 and 2015, the Reverso Squadra never sought to become a universally accepted classic. Too bold for purists, too horologically serious to be a mere fashion statement, it established itself as a distinct proposition in the history of the Reverso. Its discontinuation, without a true direct successor, has only reinforced its status today: that of a singular Reverso, emblematic of a period when Jaeger-LeCoultre dared to challenge its own codes.
The model – Reverso Squadra Hometime
The Reverso Squadra Hometime arguably represents the most accomplished balance within the entire Squadra collection. Conceived as a true travel watch, it combines immediate legibility, a useful complication and a strong design in a format that fully embraces its modernity.
Its reversible stainless steel case features generous proportions (35 mm x 41 mm with a thickness of 13 mm), characteristic of the Squadra line, while preserving the emblematic Reverso architecture. The gadroons, a historic signature of the model, are more pronounced here, reinforcing the watch’s robust and structured character. Polished and satin-brushed finishes are expertly alternated, giving the watch a strong wrist presence without excess. Water-resistant to 50 metres, the Squadra Hometime remains perfectly suited to everyday wear.
The silvered guilloché dial is one of the highlights of this model. Its highly graphic construction is based on rigorous symmetry and perfectly controlled contrast. The black Arabic numerals, deliberately large and widely spaced, ensure immediate legibility, while the luminescent hands provide comfortable reading both day and night.
The Hometime complication is integrated in a particularly intelligent manner. Local time is indicated by the solid hand, adjustable in one-hour jumps, while the openworked hand retains the reference time. At 9 o’clock, an AM/PM indicator distinguishes day and night for the home time zone, while the date—linked to local time—is displayed at 3 o’clock in a rectangular window with inverted contrast. At 6 o’clock, the small seconds appears in a square subdial, subtly echoing the overall geometry of the case.
Unlike many Reverso Duoface models, the Squadra Hometime retains a single dial. All the complexity is concentrated on one face, prioritising efficiency and legibility over demonstration. This approach reinforces its positioning as an elegant tool watch, designed for travel and quick decision-making.
At the heart of the watch beats the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture calibre 977, an automatic movement developed specifically for the Squadra collection. Visible through the sapphire caseback, it stands out for its modern and particularly robust construction. Equipped with a ceramic ball-bearing mounted rotor requiring neither lubrication nor maintenance, it offers excellent long-term reliability. Its variable-inertia balance regulated by weights, along with a hairspring fixed by laser welding, reflects the Manufacture’s high level of engineering expertise. With a power reserve of approximately 50 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, calibre 977 combines chronometric performance with endurance.
Fitted here on a stainless steel bracelet, the Reverso Squadra Hometime further asserts its contemporary and sporty character. This bracelet, specifically developed for the collection, naturally extends the lines of the case and reinforces the overall aesthetic coherence.
Straddling the worlds of travel watch, sports watch and characterful Reverso, the Squadra Hometime occupies a singular place within the Jaeger-LeCoultre universe. A timepiece designed for action and movement, without ever renouncing the horological rigour and functional elegance that define the Grande Maison.
