Even more tactical, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black” on a nylon strap boasts a pure instrument aesthetic. Darkness becomes language, the material becomes armor. A stealthy Speedmaster, sculpted for mission as much as fascination.
The Call of the Dark Side
For more than half a century, the Speedmaster has embodied humankind’s quest for space, the thrill of exploration, and the fascination with the unknown. In 1968, the astronauts of Apollo 8 became the first to fly over the far side of the Moon — that silent, shadowed realm no human eye had ever seen. As the capsule disappeared behind the lunar horizon, Commander Jim Lovell spoke the now-legendary words: “We’ll see you on the other side.” On their wrists, one watch stood as a symbol of reliability and endurance in the extreme — the Omega Speedmaster.
It was from this historic moment that, in 2013, the first Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon was born — a radical interpretation of the space chronograph crafted entirely from black ceramic. More than a watch, it was a statement: the silent beauty of technical mastery, the absolute contrast between light and matter. Over the years, this line has evolved into a true design laboratory, exploring every nuance of black until it became a signature in itself.
In 2025, OMEGA revives this concept in a purer, more refined form: the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black,” or “Dark-Dark.” Here, everything is black — case, dial, hands, indexes, even the movement — in a pursuit of perfect unity. This new generation, powered by the Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, embodies the essence of contemporary design: stripped-down, technical, almost architectural.
Where the Classic model evoked light emerging from shadow, the Black Black chooses to disappear into it entirely — a monochrome work of art, a tribute to the silence of the void. In its perfect darkness, nothing is hidden; rather, it reveals another kind of brilliance — that of mastery.
The Beauty of Absolute Black
Completely immersed in darkness, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black” 2025 pushes the concept to its limit. Here, everything is black. The 44.25 mm case is crafted from polished and satin-brushed black zirconium oxide ceramic. Each surface absorbs light; each facet seems carved directly from the night itself. This treatment gives the watch a singular presence — discreet, mysterious, and radically modern.
Thinner than previous generations, with a profile of just 15.09 mm, it retains a striking visual power, enhanced by the satin-polished lugs and the subtle interplay of contrasting finishes. The touch is soft, almost silky — a black that reflects nothing but suggests everything.
The stepped matte ceramic dial continues this stealth aesthetic. Laser-sandblasted, it features two recessed sub-dials at 3 and 9 o’clock with barely perceptible edges. The blackened hands and indexes blend seamlessly into the surface, while their black Super-LumiNova emits a faint green glow in the dark. This ghostly, almost supernatural luminescence ensures excellent legibility despite the total monochromy. Even the date window at 6 o’clock seems to dissolve into the composition.
Around this tableau of shadows, the brushed ceramic bezel features a black Grand Feu enamel tachymeter scale, offering a glossy contrast and rich depth. This choice of enamel, more organic than the Liquidmetal™ used on other versions, lends the watch a more timeless, mineral aura. Domed sapphire crystals on both sides preserve the visual purity, revealing beneath the caseback a movement completely blackened — bridges, plates, and rotor unified in the same monochrome palette.
Every detail contributes to this total harmony: polished pushers, softened lines, matte transitions — everything exudes silent precision. The Black Black doesn’t seek to catch the eye; it absorbs it. It embodies the very essence of modern watch design — a watch without embellishment, where technical mastery becomes pure art.
The Heart of Shadow: Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900
Beneath the sapphire crystal, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black” hides a masterpiece of modern mechanics — the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900, dressed entirely in black.
Bridges, plates, and rotor are treated with matte black PVD, transforming the movement into a technical sculpture where light glides without ever clinging. The result evokes a secret mechanism, concealed like the unseen reliefs of the Moon’s far side.
From a horological perspective, this movement represents the pinnacle of OMEGA’s expertise.
An automatic calibre equipped with a column wheel and vertical clutch, it ensures chronograph engagement of exceptional smoothness — without stutter or vibration.
Its twin barrels in series deliver a comfortable 60-hour power reserve, while the 4 Hz (28,800 vph) frequency guarantees long-term stability and precision.
Certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS — Switzerland’s federal institute of metrology — the Calibre 9900 meets the industry’s most demanding standards:
magnetic resistance up to 15,000 Gauss and daily precision between 0 and +5 seconds.
This level of performance places the Dark Side of the Moon among the most reliable chronographs ever produced by OMEGA.
Bracelet and Comfort
More tactical in appearance, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Black Black” 310.92.44.51.01.003 is fitted with a woven black nylon strap, in the purest tradition of professional tool watches worn during space missions. Its dense, matte texture, highly resistant to abrasion, enhances the functional character of the model and reinforces its stealthy presence.
This technical textile, lined with rubber for improved stability, combines durability and comfort. It breathes, softens over time, and is equally suited to everyday wear or extreme conditions. The ceramic and ceramized titanium folding clasp, shared across the collection, extends the aesthetic harmony while ensuring a closure that is both lightweight and secure.
In this configuration, the Black Black fully expresses its spirit as a space instrument — minimalist, technical, indestructible. A precision tool designed for action, yet one that retains, on the wrist, the sensuality of a design object.
