More technical and more sophisticated, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Dark-White” 2025 is revealed here in a version with a more assertive character. Mounted on a nylon strap, it combines the elegance of black ceramic with the robustness of a material designed for exploration. A Speedmaster faithful to the spirit of Apollo, where performance meets absolute simplicity.
The Spirit of the Speedmaster
For more than half a century, the Speedmaster has embodied the spirit of adventure and the human quest for space. In 1968, during the Apollo 8 mission, humanity saw for the very first time the far side of the Moon — a silent, mysterious territory bathed in shadow. Before disappearing behind the lunar horizon, Commander Jim Lovell spoke the now-legendary words: “We’ll see you on the other side.” On his wrist, as on those of his crewmates, an Omega Speedmaster shone — an enduring symbol of reliability and precision in the unknown.
Forty-five years later, in 2013, OMEGA paid tribute to that feat by unveiling the Dark Side of the Moon — the first Speedmaster entirely crafted from black ceramic. A technical tour de force as much as an aesthetic manifesto, it fused pure darkness with light, emptiness with matter, legend with modernity. With its monochrome allure and powerful presence, it inaugurated a whole new lineage, soon joined by the Grey Side, White Side, Pitch Black, and Sedna Black — each a different interpretation of the same lunar myth.
Twelve years on, OMEGA turns its gaze once again toward the celestial darkness and ushers the collection into a new era. Slimmer, more refined, more technically advanced, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Classic” 2025 — nicknamed “Dark-White” for its luminous accents — represents the maturity of an icon. Its re-engineered ceramic architecture, mirror-polished facets, and Co-Axial Master Chronometer calibre 9900 bring OMEGA’s craftsmanship to new heights — a perfect meeting of scientific rigor and cosmic poetry.
Light Born from Darkness
Dark, technical, and magnetic, the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon “Dark-White” 2025 captivates from the very first glance. Its 44.25 mm case is hewn from a single block of black ceramic, the result of an exceptionally precise machining and polishing process. This noble, virtually indestructible material — zirconium oxide — gives the watch its unique depth, a dense, velvety black that absorbs light only to release it again in mirror-like reflections. Each facet of the case plays with the light as lunar craters do with daylight.
For this new generation, OMEGA has completely reimagined the model’s architecture: a slimmer 15.09 mm profile, softened lugs, and a more fluid integration of the strap. The whole composition feels more balanced, retaining its bold presence while gaining in harmony. On the wrist, it conveys an impression of purity and restrained power — an instrument of conquest, refined down to the smallest detail.
The polished ceramic dial reveals a two-level construction, or “step dial,” inspired by historical Speedmasters. This architecture creates a striking sense of depth, enhanced by the glossy surface and contrasting recessed counters. The 18 K white-gold hands and indexes, delicately faceted and gently angled to follow the curve of the dial, catch the light with finesse. Their green-glowing Super-LumiNova inserts ensure perfect legibility by day or night, while a vivid red chronograph seconds hand adds a dynamic touch to the composition.
A matching red lacquer accent highlights the Speedmaster inscription — a subtle yet vibrant nod to the model’s sporting and spacefaring heritage, like a pulse of color in the dark.
Encircling the dial, a polished black ceramic bezel bears a Liquidmetal™ tachymeter scale, created through a low-temperature fusion process that ensures exceptional resistance to wear and scratches. This union of metal and ceramic perfectly expresses OMEGA’s philosophy — the harmony of artisanal beauty and material science. Sapphire crystals front and back offer crystalline transparency, magnifying the dial while revealing, through the caseback, the movement adorned with arabesque Geneva waves.
Down to its most discreet details — the smooth feel of the polished pushers, the satin transitions of the lugs, the razor-sharp edges — this Dark Side of the Moon “Classic” asserts a total aesthetic vision. A subtle balance between shadow and light, power and finesse, technology and emotion. A watch whose design, both technical and inspired, feels born of a meeting between space engineering and celestial poetry.
The Beating Heart: the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900
Beneath the domed sapphire crystal caseback beats one of OMEGA’s most accomplished movements — the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 9900. A true showcase of horological mastery, it embodies the expertise cultivated in the brand’s Bienne workshops for generations.
Entirely developed and assembled in-house, this automatic movement features a column-wheel chronograph and vertical clutch, ensuring flawless precision and a smooth, crisp feel under the fingertips.
Certified Master Chronometer by METAS — the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology — it meets the industry’s highest standards: a daily precision between 0 and +5 seconds, magnetic resistance up to 15,000 gauss, and exhaustive testing across eight positions and varying power levels.
This certification crowns OMEGA’s proprietary Co-Axial system, which reduces friction and enhances long-term stability.
The Calibre 9900 is built around twin barrels mounted in series, providing a 60-hour power reserve, and beats at a modern 4 Hz (28,800 vph).
Its bicompax layout — with combined 12-hour / 60-minute counter at 3 o’clock, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and discreet date at 6 — ensures perfect visual balance and outstanding readability.
Beyond its technical excellence lies pure beauty: visible through the transparent caseback, the movement reveals its rhodium-plated bridges decorated with arabesque Geneva waves, a rotor engraved with the OMEGA logo, and an architecture designed for both visual pleasure and mechanical performance.
Bracelet and Comfort: the Final Touch
More technical in its appearance, reference 310.92.44.51.01.002 replaces the textured rubber strap with a black nylon one, in the purest tradition of professional instruments. This robust, breathable material — directly inspired by the straps used during space missions — reinforces the watch’s utilitarian identity while emphasizing its monochrome aesthetic.
Lined with rubber on the inner surface for improved grip, the strap combines suppleness and durability, ensuring remarkable comfort even during extended wear. The folding clasp, crafted from ceramic and ceramized titanium, offers both lightness and security, while echoing the refined finishing codes of the case.
