Carrera Astronomer: An unprecedented complication in the TAG Heuer universe

When it was introduced in 1963 under the vision of Jack Heuer, the Carrera represented a revolution: a chronograph designed for readability and functionality, created for drivers as well as enthusiasts of modern design. Since then, it has remained one of TAG Heuer’s cornerstones, a symbol of uncompromising sporty elegance.

In 2025, on the occasion of the Geneva Watch Days, the Carrera takes a new step forward with the introduction of the Astronomer. For the first time, the Swiss Maison equips its emblematic collection with a moonphase complication, opening the door to a more poetic and contemplative dimension. By combining the rational spirit of the Carrera with celestial imagination, TAG Heuer once again demonstrates its ability to merge heritage and innovation.

A design inspired by the stars, faithful to Carrera DNA

The Carrera Astronomer WBX2112.FC6615 features the 39 mm stainless steel case of the “pre-Glassbox” Carrera, recognizable by its elongated lugs and slim bezel. But this limited edition stands out with a grey dial, with subtle reflections, punctuated by green accents on the printed Arabic numerals, the hands, and the lunar cycle markers.

The dial is structured in three concentric sections:

1. a pronounced outer flange,
2. a brushed middle section,
3. and finally the inner zone, occupied by the lunar display.

On the central disc appear the seven main phases of the Moon, as well as all 29.5 days of the complete cycle. A double-tipped hand acts as a pointer, advancing each day at 1 a.m. to indicate both the phase and the day of the cycle. The result is a functional and educational reading, far removed from the usual romantic approach to moonphases.

The watch is completed by a grey leather strap, understated and contemporary, which enhances the singular personality of this edition.

The Calibre 7 and the engraved caseback

The watch is powered by the automatic Calibre 7, a new movement that introduces the moonphase to the Carrera collection. It offers a 50-hour power reserve and is distinguished by its reliability.

Unlike other Carreras, the caseback is not open: it is a solid steel back, decorated with a laser engraving of an astronomical observatory. A detail that reinforces the celestial identity of the watch and underscores its originality.

A limited edition of 500 pieces

The Astronomer WBX2112.FC6615 is produced in only 500 pieces. More radical in its aesthetic approach than the classic steel version, it adopts an almost “scientific” visual language, where the fluorescent green accents contrast with the grey to deliver a clear and distinctive display.

This combination of sobriety and boldness makes it a watch apart, both in the history of the Carrera and in the TAG Heuer 2025 collection.

What we think

This Carrera Astronomer on grey leather is undoubtedly the most intriguing of the three references unveiled. While the steel version opts for sobriety, this limited edition embraces a more experimental style. It pushes TAG Heuer’s ambition even further, exploring new registers between academic rigor and mechanical poetry.

One immediately thinks of the Heuer Solunar from the 1950s, which displayed tides according to lunar cycles. The lineage is clear: a dial conceived as a true instrument of reading, but this time dedicated to the Moon itself.

Ultimately, the WBX2112.FC6615 stands out as a collector’s Carrera, atypical and assertive, proving that TAG Heuer is unafraid to take risks, surprise enthusiasts, and renew its horological language.
