Everything you need to know about Zénith watches
The history of Zenith began in 1865 in Le Locle, Switzerland, when the young watchmaker Georges Favre-Jacot founded what would become one of the world's first fully integrated watch manufactures. At just 22 years old, he brought together every stage of watchmaking under one roof, revolutionising production and quality standards. Driven by a relentless pursuit of precision, Zenith has earned an outstanding reputation through numerous chronometry awards and the creation of legendary movements, most notably the El Primero.
Choosing a Zenith watch means choosing a Swiss luxury timepiece that combines technical innovation, exceptional precision and distinctive design. The Manufacture develops and produces its own in-house movements, including high-frequency automatic calibres capable of measuring extremely short intervals of time. Every Zenith creation reflects more than 160 years of watchmaking expertise, whether it is a sporty chronograph, a pilot's watch or an elegant everyday timepiece.
Zenith's signature collections include the Zenith Chronomaster, dedicated to high-frequency automatic chronographs, and the Zenith Defy, renowned for its contemporary architecture and technical innovation. The Zenith Pilot collection celebrates the Maison's rich aviation heritage, while the Zenith Elite collection offers refined, timeless and understated elegance.
Introduced in 1969, El Primero is Zenith's most iconic calibre and one of the most influential chronograph movements ever created. This integrated automatic mechanical movement beats at a high frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz), allowing it to measure time to one-tenth of a second. Entirely developed and manufactured in-house, it features an integrated architecture, a column wheel and exceptional chronograph performance. Continuously refined over the decades, El Primero now powers many models within the Chronomaster, Defy and Pilot collections.
Zenith is recognised as a genuine Manufacture because it designs, develops and produces its own mechanical movements entirely in-house. From its very beginning in 1865, Georges Favre-Jacot brought together every watchmaking craft within a single facility in Le Locle, enabling greater precision, quality and consistency. This philosophy continues today through the development of sophisticated in-house calibres such as El Primero and Elite, as well as innovative chronographs and advanced mechanical complications.
The ideal Zenith watch depends on your personal style and expectations. The Chronomaster is perfect for enthusiasts of high-frequency chronographs and historic watchmaking. The Defy appeals to those seeking a contemporary sport-luxury watch with cutting-edge design. The Pilot collection offers exceptional legibility and a bold aviation-inspired character, while the Elite collection is an excellent choice for those looking for a refined and timeless mechanical dress watch.
A new Zenith watch is covered by a two-year international warranty from the date of purchase, in accordance with the official Zenith International Warranty conditions. For watches purchased from 1 January 2022 onwards, the warranty can be extended by an additional three years after registering the timepiece with the Manufacture, providing a total warranty period of five years. The warranty covers manufacturing defects but excludes normal wear and tear, accidental damage, scratches and repairs carried out by unauthorised service centres.
