The new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Date combines the sporty elegance of the Polaris collection with a spectacular blue lacquered gradient dial crafted through an exceptionally complex artisanal process. Inspired by the Maison's legendary diving watches, this 40 mm timepiece is powered by the manufacture Calibre 899 and offers outstanding versatility for everyday wear and travel alike.
The Polaris Legacy: Adventure Meets Elegance
When Jaeger-LeCoultre revived the Polaris name in 2018, the Manufacture did far more than reissue a historic model. Drawing inspiration from the legendary 1968 Memovox Polaris, one of the most iconic diving watches of its era, the Maison created a collection designed for modern adventures while preserving the refinement and craftsmanship for which the Vallée de Joux manufacture is renowned.
The new Polaris Date perfectly embodies this philosophy. More compact with its 40 mm stainless steel case, it retains all the signature elements of the collection: an internal rotating bezel operated by a second crown at 2 o'clock, a subtly domed sapphire crystal, alternating brushed and polished surfaces, and a sporty yet perfectly balanced silhouette. It is a watch designed to accompany both everyday exploration and long-distance travel.
A Blue Lacquered Dial of Exceptional Depth
The centrepiece of this new Polaris Date is undoubtedly its striking blue gradient dial, showcasing Jaeger-LeCoultre's expertise in decorative craftsmanship. Its production requires numerous meticulous stages to achieve its remarkable visual depth.
The dial is first enhanced with opaline, grained and sunray-brushed finishes across its different sections before multiple layers of translucent lacquer are applied. This elaborate process creates a captivating gradient effect, transitioning from a vibrant blue centre to darker tones around the perimeter, enhancing both depth and sophistication.
The elongated trapezoidal indexes, Arabic numerals and skeletonised hands are coated with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring excellent legibility in all lighting conditions. Subtle orange accents reinforce the sporty heritage of the collection while adding a contemporary touch to the overall design.
A Modern Tool Watch
Like its famous 1968 predecessor, the Polaris Date remains, above all, an instrument built for action. Its internal rotating bezel allows the wearer to measure elapsed time or perform countdown functions using the dedicated crown positioned at 2 o'clock. A discreet date display at 3 o'clock completes the watch's practical functionality.
Water-resistant to 200 metres, it fully meets the expectations of a modern sports watch. Its blue textile strap features a quick-change system, allowing the wearer to adapt the watch effortlessly to different occasions and activities.
The Manufacture Calibre 899
At the heart of the Polaris Date beats the Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 899, an automatic movement entirely designed, developed and assembled within the Manufacture. This latest-generation calibre delivers an impressive 70-hour power reserve, perfectly suited to today's active lifestyles.
Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement reveals refined finishing details including Côtes de Genève decoration, perlage and an elegant open-worked oscillating weight. A demonstration of Jaeger-LeCoultre's watchmaking expertise that elevates the Polaris Date beyond a simple sports watch into a true Haute Horlogerie creation built for adventure.
