True to the DNA of the brand founded by Benoît Mintiens, the TYPE 11 abandons hands and crown in favor of a patented orbital display, where time is read through a system of rotating discs. More importantly, this model marks a major milestone in Ressence’s history: for the first time, the watch is powered by a fully in-house movement developed specifically for its display architecture. With the RW-01 calibre, the TYPE 11 finally fulfills a long-standing ambition — to merge movement and display into a single unified system.

The Ressence universe & ROCS

Since its founding in 2010 in Antwerp, Ressence has established itself as a true laboratory of watch design, rethinking how time is perceived and displayed on the wrist. Moving against convention, the brand does not seek to refine the existing, but to redefine the very essence of the mechanical watch through a philosophy known as “Simplication”: reducing visible complexity to deliver a more intuitive, human reading of time.

At the heart of this philosophy lies the patented ROCS (Ressence Orbital Convex System). Here, there are no hands: time is displayed through a system of rotating discs, arranged as satellites orbiting a central axis. Each indication — hours, minutes, seconds or power reserve — evolves continuously on a single plane, in a fluid motion reminiscent of planetary movement.

This unique architecture transforms time reading into a natural and instinctive experience. The dial becomes a living surface, constantly in motion, where every piece of information remains perfectly aligned and legible. On some of the brand’s most iconic models, this system is even immersed in oil, eliminating reflections and creating the illusion that the display is projected directly onto the crystal.

Faithful to its distinctive design language, it retains the brand’s signature fluid and organic silhouette, with a pebble-shaped Grade 5 titanium case topped by a domed sapphire crystal that perfectly follows the convex dial.

Free from a traditional crown, the TYPE 11 emphasizes direct and simplified interaction. Winding and time-setting are performed via a lever integrated into the caseback — an ergonomic solution that enhances usability while preserving the purity of the design. Nothing interrupts the continuity of the lines, reinforcing the impression of a monolithic and perfectly coherent object.

Its three-dimensional dial houses the ROCS satellites in a perfectly balanced architecture, where each indication finds its natural place. Hours, minutes, seconds and power reserve coexist on a single moving surface, offering a reading of time that is both original and intuitive.

Available in several color interpretations — Pine, Sky and Latte — the TYPE 11 explores different perceptions of this unique architecture, playing with light, textures and contrasts to create three distinct visual experiences.

The RW-01 movement: a revolution

At the heart of the TYPE 11 lies a major innovation in Ressence’s history: the RW-01 calibre, the brand’s first fully in-house developed movement. More than a technical evolution, this new engine represents a fundamental shift in Ressence’s watch architecture, finally uniting two previously separate elements — the movement and the ROCS display system.

Until now, the brand’s creations relied on modified Swiss calibres topped with the orbital module. While ingenious, this approach imposed certain mechanical and energy constraints. With the RW-01, designed from the ground up, Ressence completely rethinks this architecture to meet the specific demands of its handless display.

The result is total integration: movement and ROCS now form a single, cohesive and inseparable system. This fusion significantly improves energy efficiency, fluidity of operation and overall reliability, while simplifying the construction.

Equipped with twin barrels, the RW-01 delivers a 60-hour power reserve — a notable performance given the energy required to drive the entire rotating dial. Its frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour ensures stable and precise timekeeping, while its 40 jewels, 67 moving components and 18 titanium ball bearings reflect the controlled complexity of its architecture.

Visually, the movement adopts a unique triangular structure, echoing the layout of the dial indications. This aesthetic coherence reinforces the connection between mechanics and design, in a philosophy where every element serves the whole. True to Ressence’s approach, the RW-01 is not conceived as a decorative object, but as a functional engine optimized to power the ROCS system with efficiency and consistency.

Time display & power reserve

With the TYPE 11, reading time becomes more than a simple function — it transforms into a true visual and sensory experience. At the center of the dial, the minute platform acts as a moving base, driving the various satellites that display the other indications. Despite this unique architecture, readability remains remarkably intuitive: each element is always correctly oriented, perfectly legible and visually balanced.

The TYPE 11 also introduces a new interpretation of the power reserve, as innovative as it is playful. Moving away from traditional indicators, Ressence uses a patented system of ceramic micro-balls arranged within a circular channel. Two contrasting colors coexist, gradually evolving according to the remaining energy.

When the watch is fully wound, lighter balls dominate. As the power reserve decreases, darker balls progressively take over, offering an immediate and intuitive reading of the movement’s state. This system transforms a technical parameter into a dynamic, almost tactile visual display, seamlessly integrated into the overall dial design.

Design & ergonomics

The TYPE 11 continues the Ressence design philosophy, where every element serves both aesthetics and functionality. Its fully polished Grade 5 titanium case adopts a smooth, pebble-like silhouette that naturally conforms to the wrist. This lightweight yet highly resistant material enhances overall comfort, allowing the watch to almost disappear despite its strong visual presence.

With a diameter of 41 mm, a restrained thickness of 11 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 45 mm, the TYPE 11 features particularly well-balanced proportions. The absence of a bezel and the continuity of the dial to the edges create a sense of openness and modernity, while maintaining excellent wearability.
