Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M GMT Worldtimer automatic 43 mm Full Set 2021
- NEW
With the Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer, OMEGA combines the nautical elegance of the Aqua Terra collection with one of the most fascinating complications in watchmaking: the simultaneous display of time zones around the world. A technical and spectacular watch, designed for modern travelers.
The Story
The history of the Seamaster dates back to 1948, the year of OMEGA’s centenary. To mark the occasion, the Swiss maison introduced a waterproof watch inspired by the timepieces supplied to British forces during the Second World War. Robust, reliable and designed to withstand extreme conditions, these military watches laid the foundation for a new generation of civilian sports watches. The Seamaster was born with a clear mission: to create a watch capable of accompanying its owner both in everyday life and in demanding environments.
Over the decades, the collection would establish itself as one of the pillars of the brand. In 1957, the arrival of the Seamaster 300 marked a decisive turning point, firmly positioning OMEGA among the key references in professional diving watches. From that moment on, the Seamaster became inseparable from marine exploration as well as from technical innovation in water resistance, robustness and precision.
It was within this heritage that the Seamaster Aqua Terra collection was introduced in 2002. OMEGA envisioned a more versatile Seamaster, capable of preserving the maritime DNA of the line while embracing a more elegant and contemporary aesthetic. Its design stands out thanks to the famous “teak” dial pattern inspired by yacht decks, along with a subtle balance between sportiness and refinement.
The Worldtimer complication first appeared within this collection in 2017, celebrating the fifteenth anniversary of the Aqua Terra. OMEGA unveiled a highly exclusive platinum edition limited to just 87 pieces, featuring for the first time within the brand a true world-time complication. The watch immediately stood out thanks to its spectacular dial depicting the Earth as seen from the North Pole, surrounded by a ring of the world’s major cities.
Following the success of this piece, OMEGA decided in 2019 to integrate the Worldtimer into the permanent collection with versions in steel and gold. The Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer thus became one of the most sophisticated models in the range, combining the nautical spirit of the Seamaster, the elegance of the Aqua Terra and a horological complication designed for those whose horizons extend far beyond borders.
The Model
This OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Worldtimer immediately stands out thanks to its spectacular dial, the true centerpiece of the watch. Designed as an invitation to travel, it is organized across several perfectly legible layers. Around the perimeter, a ring displaying the world’s major cities allows the time in the 24 time zones to be read instantly. Among them appears Bienne, the historic headquarters of OMEGA, replacing the traditional Paris reference for the GMT+1 time zone.
Inside this ring, a 24-hour disc made of hesalite glass indicates the day/night cycle through a subtle color distinction: light blue for daytime and dark blue for nighttime. This indication allows the wearer to instantly determine whether the selected city is experiencing daylight or darkness.
At the center of the dial, OMEGA reveals the most striking element: a representation of the Earth viewed from the North Pole. This world map is crafted on a grade 5 titanium plate, laser-ablated to create continents in relief while the oceans appear in a deep blue tone. The result offers remarkable visual depth and gives the watch an almost cartographic dimension.
The dial also retains the aesthetic codes of the Aqua Terra collection with its vertical “teak” pattern inspired by yacht decks, as well as applied indexes and luminous hands ensuring excellent readability. The date is discreetly positioned at 6 o’clock, bringing balance to the overall composition of the dial.
All of this is housed within a 43 mm stainless steel case featuring alternating polished and brushed finishes, faithful to the iconic Aqua Terra design with its characteristic lyre-shaped lugs. Water-resistant to 150 meters, the watch remains true to the Seamaster DNA and can accompany its owner both while traveling and near the water.
Mounted on its stainless steel bracelet, this Worldtimer achieves a perfect balance between sportiness, sophistication and comfort, making it as impressive to admire as it is pleasant to wear.
The Movement
At the heart of this Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer beats the OMEGA calibre 8938, a manufacture automatic movement derived from the 8900 family. It incorporates the Co-Axial escapement, OMEGA’s signature technology designed to improve chronometric stability and reduce friction within the movement.
This calibre is certified as a Master Chronometer by METAS (the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). This particularly demanding certification guarantees high precision as well as resistance to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, a level far beyond traditional watchmaking standards.
The movement operates at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour and features twin barrels, ensuring more consistent energy distribution and a comfortable power reserve of approximately 60 hours.
The defining feature of this watch is, of course, its Worldtimer complication. This function allows the wearer to read the time simultaneously across the 24 principal time zones of the world. The system relies on three key elements: the city ring, the 24-hour disc indicating day and night, and the central world map.
Once the local time is set, simply refer to the city corresponding to the desired time zone on the outer ring. The time in that city is then indicated by the 24-hour disc located inside, which also distinguishes between day and night periods. The entire display is adjusted through the crown alone, without additional pushers, making the system particularly intuitive to use.
Visible through the sapphire caseback, the calibre reveals the distinctive arabesque Geneva waves finishing characteristic of OMEGA movements. A modern, precise and robust mechanism, perfectly suited to the spirit of travel embodied by this Aqua Terra Worldtimer.
