With the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton, ZENITH elevates the DEFY collection to its highest level of horological expression. A true creative laboratory for the Manufacture, the DEFY line has, for several years, explored the boundaries of precision, architecture, and contemporary design. This tourbillon interpretation represents the culmination of that approach, combining an emblematic high complication with a resolutely modern vision of watchmaking.

A contemporary heir to the original DEFY of 1969, the Skyline retains the founding codes of the collection — assertive geometry, robustness, and legibility — while reinterpreting them through an architectural language inspired by modern metropolises. For the first time, this architecture welcomes a skeletonized tourbillon, making the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton the most complex and expressive Skyline to date.

Presented on the occasion of LVMH Watch Week 2026, this creation marks a major milestone in the evolution of the collection. Conceived as a manifesto piece, it illustrates ZENITH’s ability to combine technical innovation, mastery of precious materials, and aesthetic coherence. Limited to 50 pieces, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton is aimed at collectors seeking contemporary high horology, where the complication is not concealed but becomes the very heart of the design.

Rose gold & openworked architecture – A sculpture of light

Entirely crafted in 18-carat rose gold, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton enhances the angular architecture of the collection through the warmth and nobility of the precious metal. Satin-brushed and polished surfaces alternate across the facets of the 41 mm case, creating a finely chiselled geometry that captures and reshapes light with every movement of the wrist. The octagonal case middle and dodecagonal bezel, signatures of the DEFY line, take on an almost sculptural dimension here, reinforcing the watch’s stately presence.

Freed from any traditional dial, the Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton reveals an airy, three-dimensional construction. The eye is drawn directly into the heart of the movement, simply framed by a suspended peripheral flange that carries the hour markers and accentuates the sense of depth. This absence of a dial provides an immersive reading experience, where the mechanics become the central element of the composition.

The ZENITH signature, applied to the sapphire crystal, appears to float above the movement, while the four-pointed star, the Manufacture’s historic emblem, is integrated directly into the skeletonized mainplate. This architectural approach, in which the mechanical structure serves as the décor, transforms the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton into a true horological sculpture of light, blending geometric rigor with visual poetry.

El Primero 3630 SK – The tourbillon in open architecture

At the heart of the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton beats the manufacture automatic El Primero 3630 SK calibre, a skeletonized and highly architectural interpretation of ZENITH’s iconic movement. Designed from the outset as an open structure, this calibre does more than simply house a tourbillon: it integrates it as a central element of its composition, both technically and aesthetically.

The one-minute tourbillon, positioned at 6 o’clock, oscillates at a high frequency of 5 Hz (36,000 vibrations per hour), a rare and distinctive signature of ZENITH in the world of high complications. Its cage, composed of 56 components, is set within a perfectly legible architecture, offering a permanent and rhythmic mechanical spectacle, fully visible thanks to the absence of a dial.

The skeletonization of the calibre reveals a sophisticated interplay of depths and volumes, enhanced by two inclined architectural bridges positioned at 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock. Their double-level geometry evokes the cantilevers of contemporary architecture and naturally guides the eye toward the center of the movement. The ZENITH star, integrated into the mainplate and enlarged around the tourbillon aperture, becomes a true structural motif, linking the Maison’s identity to the mechanics.

The finishes demonstrate a high level of craftsmanship: the mainplate and bridges are treated with blue PVD, subtly contrasted by polished rhodium-plated bevels that capture the light with brilliance. The skeletonized barrel offers a direct view of the mainspring and visually accompanies the unwinding of the 50-hour power reserve, completing this mechanical choreography in which precision and aesthetics resonate in harmony.

Prestige & contemporary wear

Despite its level of complication and its status as a high-horology timepiece, the DEFY Skyline Tourbillon Skeleton has been designed for everyday wear, in a spirit true to the DEFY DNA. Its rose gold case is fitted with a screw-down crown and guarantees water resistance to 10 ATM (100 meters), a remarkable level for a tourbillon watch and a testament to the inherent robustness of the collection.

The watch is fitted with an integrated rose gold bracelet, elegantly extending the faceted lines of the case and ensuring optimal balance on the wrist. To enhance its versatility, ZENITH also provides an additional blue rubber strap with a star pattern, lighter and more sporty, equipped with a matching gold folding clasp.
