Created in 1938, the Big Crown collection was born as a true precision instrument for aviators. Its oversized crown, designed to be handled with gloves, and its Pointer Date function, ensuring optimal legibility, laid the foundations of a design that quickly became instantly recognizable. These codes, preserved intact nearly 90 years later, make the Big Crown one of the emblematic timepieces of Swiss watchmaking.

Over the decades, Oris has continuously asserted its legitimacy in the field of mechanical movements. In 2014, the brand reached a turning point with the launch of the Calibre 110, created for its 110th anniversary. This hand-wound movement introduced two key signatures: an exceptional 10-day power reserve obtained through a single barrel, and a patented non-linear power reserve indicator, offering a more intuitive reading as the energy runs down.

The success of the Calibre 110 paved the way for an entire series of manufacture movements – Calibres 111, 112, 113, 114, and 115 – each bringing an additional complication or a different aesthetic approach, such as the futuristic skeletonized Calibre 115 housed in the ProPilot X. This family of movements, known as the Calibre 100 series, embodies Oris’s determination to develop distinctive, useful, and durable mechanics in-house.

Today, the brand combines this heritage with its flagship model through the Big Crown Calibre 113. While the Big Crown Calibre 113 stays true to the historical codes of the collection with its round 43 mm stainless steel case and oversized crown, it stands out with a resolutely modern and expressive aesthetic approach.

Oris has chosen a daring chromatic palette: a luminous mint-green dial, highlighted with powder pink subdials and details, giving the piece an unexpected freshness. Certain golden and white elements provide contrast and balance, enhancing legibility. Hands, numerals, and indexes are filled with Super-LumiNova®, ensuring optimal readability by day and night.

The whole is protected by a domed double-sided sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment, and paired with a multi-piece stainless steel bracelet fitted with a folding clasp developed by Oris. Designed and assembled in Hölstein, it perfectly illustrates Oris’s ability to develop in-house mechanics that are both innovative and functional.

Entirely hand-wound, the Calibre 113 offers an exceptional 10-day (240-hour) power reserve thanks to a single barrel fitted with an extra-long mainspring. This rare performance is accompanied by a patented non-linear power reserve indicator: as the energy decreases, the display widens to improve readability and alert the wearer to the ideal moment to wind the watch.

But the hallmark of this calibre lies in its full business calendar, a rare and distinctive complication:

• Month by central hand
• 52 weeks of the year displayed on a peripheral scale, indicated by a pointer hand

All these functions are adjusted simply via the crown and discreet correctors, enhancing the elegance and practicality of the piece.
