Everything you need to know about IWC watches
The history of IWC Schaffhausen began in 1868, when American watchmaker and engineer Florentine Ariosto Jones founded the International Watch Company in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. His ambition was to combine modern American manufacturing methods with the traditional expertise of Swiss watchmakers. This distinctive approach gave rise to a Manufacture renowned for the precision of its movements, the robustness of its watches and its resolutely technical vision of luxury watchmaking.
Choosing an IWC Schaffhausen watch means choosing a Swiss timepiece that combines precision engineering, elegance and reliability. The Manufacture is distinguished by its functional designs, sophisticated mechanical movements and mastery of complications such as the chronograph, perpetual calendar and moon phase display. From sporty Pilot’s Watches to refined dress watches, every IWC creation possesses a strong identity designed to transcend generations.
The principal collections available from Lepage include the IWC Pilot’s Watches, renowned for their legibility and functional character, the Portugieser, which embodies classical elegance and prestigious complications, the Portofino, characterised by understated and timeless lines, and the Ingenieur, a luxury sports watch distinguished by its technical architecture and integrated bracelet.
The IWC Pilot’s Watches are renowned for their exceptional legibility, cockpit-instrument-inspired dials and remarkable robustness. Many models feature large Arabic numerals, luminescent hands and a triangular marker at 12 o’clock, allowing the time to be read quickly and intuitively. The collection includes the Mark series, Pilot’s Watch Chronographs and Big Pilot’s Watches, as well as creations crafted from innovative materials such as ceramic and Ceratanium®.
Created in the late 1930s at the request of Portuguese merchants seeking the precision of a marine chronometer in a wristwatch, the IWC Portugieser collection has become a benchmark of classical watchmaking. Its watches are recognised by their generous dials, Arabic numerals, railway-track chapter rings and harmonious proportions. The Portugieser also houses some of the Manufacture’s most prestigious complications, including chronographs, perpetual calendars and tourbillons.
The IWC Portofino collection is designed for enthusiasts seeking elegant, understated and versatile watches. Inspired by the refined Mediterranean lifestyle of the Italian village from which it takes its name, the collection favours round cases, uncluttered dials and timeless lines. Available as automatic watches, chronographs, complete calendars and moon phase models, the Portofino is equally suited to everyday wear and more formal occasions.
The IWC Ingenieur collection combines the Manufacture’s technical heritage with the aesthetics of a modern luxury sports watch. Contemporary models reinterpret the design codes of the Ingenieur SL created by Gérald Genta in the 1970s, including its integrated bracelet, distinctive bezel and carefully finished surfaces. Its robust, ergonomic and sophisticated design makes the Ingenieur a versatile watch that complements both casual and more formal attire.
IWC Schaffhausen approaches watchmaking as a true engineering discipline. The Manufacture develops numerous mechanical movements, chronographs and complications, while paying particular attention to reliability and ease of use. It is also distinguished by its expertise in innovative materials such as titanium, ceramic and Ceratanium®, a titanium alloy whose surface acquires ceramic-like properties through a specific heat-treatment process.
A new IWC Schaffhausen watch is initially covered by a two-year International Limited Warranty. By registering the timepiece through the My IWC programme during the validity period of the original warranty, owners may request an additional six-year extension, bringing the total coverage period to up to eight years. The warranty covers defects in materials or manufacturing recognised by the Manufacture’s technical services, subject to the applicable conditions and exclusions.
