A French Watchmaking Legacy

In 1950, during the race to conquer the world’s highest peaks, Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal successfully summited Annapurna while wearing their rugged LIP Himalaya watches, marking a new chapter in the history of mountaineering.

Designed to withstand extreme conditions, the LIP Himalaya, with its water-resistant case and precise movement, proved to be an essential tool for these pioneers. Its luminous dial allowed climbers to read the time even during the dark Himalayan nights.

Five years later, Lionel Terray and Jean Couzy further demonstrated the reliability of this timepiece by reaching the summit of Makalu. These remarkable achievements helped establish the brand as a benchmark in the world of mountaineering.

The Model

This LIP Himalaya combines sporty elegance with timeless design. It features a 40 mm polished and brushed 316L stainless steel case paired with a stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp.

Its deep green luminous dial is fitted with Arabic numeral hour markers and white hands for excellent legibility. Equipped with a screw-down case back and water-resistant to 50 metres, the watch also includes a day-date display at 3 o’clock, showing the day in French alongside the date.

The Movement

To power this men's watch, LIP has selected the Miyota GM02 analogue quartz movement, ensuring reliable accuracy and precise timekeeping for everyday wear.
