This TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green celebrates one of motorsport’s most iconic colors: British Racing Green. In this limited edition of 1,000 pieces, the iconic Monaco returns to its roots with a perfectly executed neo-vintage design that blends racing heritage, the modernity of titanium, and the historic identity of the Calibre 11.

The backstory

Since its creation in 1969, the TAG Heuer Monaco has established itself as one of the most iconic watches in the world of watchmaking. As the first square, water-resistant automatic chronograph, it marked a major aesthetic and technical breakthrough. Its legend was cemented in 1971 when Steve McQueen wore it in the film Le Mans, forever linking it to the world of motorsport.

Beyond its design, the Monaco is deeply connected to racing history. At a time when cars were identified by their national colors rather than sponsors, each country had its own: red for Italy, blue for France, silver for Germany… and green for the United Kingdom. This famous British Racing Green, first seen in 1902 during Selwyn Edge’s victory at the Gordon Bennett Cup, quickly became an enduring symbol of motorsport.

With this Racing Green edition, TAG Heuer pays tribute to this heritage, following an earlier blue version dedicated to France. It extends the Monaco’s historic connection to the world of racing in a version that is elegant, understated and deeply authentic.

The model

The TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green stands out with a subtle and perfectly balanced execution. Its 39 mm square case in grade 2 titanium, finished with a sandblasted surface, offers a modern and technical aesthetic while significantly enhancing comfort thanks to its lightness.

The silver sunray-brushed dial captures the light beautifully and serves as a refined backdrop for the British Racing Green subdials, adding depth and character to the overall design. Rather than opting for a fully green dial, TAG Heuer chose a lighter base, enhancing contrast and visual sophistication.

Racing-inspired details are present throughout:

  • Bright yellow central chronograph hand for instant readability
  • Horizontal index at 12 o’clock, a strong visual signature
  • Light green luminescent dots subtly integrated into the minute track
  • Vintage Heuer logo, a nod to historic models

The perforated green leather strap, lined in yellow, extends this automotive inspiration, echoing the materials used in racing gloves and car interiors. Soft and comfortable, it reinforces the sporty character while maintaining a refined elegance.

True to the Monaco DNA, the crown is positioned at 9 o’clock — a distinctive feature inherited from the 1969 model, originally designed to improve comfort while driving. A technical and visual signature that is instantly recognizable.

With a design that is less demonstrative than some recent versions, this Monaco Racing Green returns to a purer, more legible and more wearable approach, while maintaining a strong identity.

The movement

At the heart of this Monaco beats the Calibre 11, an automatic movement deeply rooted in watchmaking history. Introduced in 1969, it was one of the very first automatic chronographs ever developed, contributing to the technical revolution of its time.

Built on a modular architecture (Sellita base paired with a Dubois-Dépraz chronograph module), it offers a power reserve of approximately 40 hours and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This movement is also distinguished by its unique configuration, allowing the crown to be positioned on the left side of the case — an iconic Monaco signature.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, it serves as a reminder that this watch is not only a design object, but also a true witness to the history of modern chronographs.

A distinctive and sought-after piece

Produced in a limited run of just 1,000 pieces, this TAG Heuer Monaco Chronograph Racing Green is already highly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors. It brings together all the elements that make a Monaco truly desirable: an iconic design, a historic calibre with left-side crown, and above all, a perfectly executed neo-vintage interpretation.

Its use of British Racing Green — both subtle and elegant — gives it a strong identity without veering into excess, unlike some more demonstrative versions. Combined with a lightweight and modern titanium case, this edition achieves a rare balance between heritage, innovation and wearability.

At the crossroads between a collector’s piece and an everyday pleasure watch, this Monaco Racing Green embodies a particularly refined vision of the TAG Heuer icon — a future classic destined to leave a lasting mark within the collection.
