Since its creation in 1957, the Speedmaster has established itself as one of the most iconic chronographs in watchmaking history. Originally designed for pilots and engineers, it quickly reached a new dimension when, in 1965, it became the watch officially certified by NASA for space missions.

Four years later, it entered legend by accompanying the astronauts of Apollo 11 during the first steps on the Moon. True to its role as a precision instrument, the Speedmaster would go on to support all six lunar missions, forging a unique reputation in the world of horology.

The model

The Speedmaster “Blue Side of the Moon” immediately stands out with a striking aesthetic approach, where material and light play a central role. Its 44.25 mm case is entirely crafted in blue ceramic — a material both highly resistant and particularly complex to work with — used across the case, bezel, pushers and crown. This consistency reinforces the identity of the watch, giving it a modern and assertive presence on the wrist.

Perhaps its most captivating feature is the aventurine glass dial. Created by incorporating metallic micro-crystals — notably cobalt and manganese — into the glass, it recreates the appearance of a shimmering night sky, delivering a deep and almost hypnotic effect.
With every movement of the wrist, the light reveals a multitude of reflections, evoking a miniature celestial vault, perfectly aligned with the Speedmaster’s space heritage.

This cosmic display is enhanced by 18K Sedna™ gold hands and indexes, whose warm tone contrasts elegantly with the deep blue of the dial. The indications are perfectly balanced: a chronograph counter at 3 o’clock, small seconds and date at 9 o’clock with a red-tipped hand, while maintaining excellent legibility despite the visual richness of the piece.

At 6 o’clock, the watch reveals a beautifully executed moonphase, set within an aventurine disc. The different lunar phases, crafted in Sedna™ gold, display remarkable detail, with a near-realistic rendering that evokes the craters and textures of Earth’s natural satellite.

The whole is framed by a blue ceramic bezel featuring a tachymeter scale in Ceragold™, OMEGA’s signature technology combining the durability of ceramic with the nobility of gold. The movement

At the heart of this Speedmaster “Blue Side of the Moon” beats the OMEGA calibre 9904, a next-generation automatic movement developed and manufactured in-house. A true concentration of technology, it embodies OMEGA’s expertise at its highest level.

Certified Master Chronometer by METAS, this calibre meets the most demanding standards in the watch industry. It guarantees exceptional precision (between 0 and +5 seconds per day), as well as resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss — a particularly high level of performance in real-world conditions.

Equipped with the Co-Axial escapement, OMEGA’s technical signature, the calibre 9904 reduces internal friction, improving chronometric stability and lowering maintenance requirements. It also offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours, ensuring optimal ease of use in daily wear.

This movement drives a comprehensive set of functions: chronograph, date and moonphase, all arranged in a well-balanced dial layout. Visible through the sapphire caseback, it reveals refined finishing, with decorated bridges and an openworked rotor, showcasing the attention to detail in every component.
