What began as a nod to the legendary “Quartz Diver” of the 1980s now enters a new era—at the heart of urban culture. In 2023, Seiko 5 Sports reintroduces the SKX Midsize, reinterpreted with modern colorways perfectly in tune with the times.

Made famous from 1996 onward, the SKX established itself as one of the most iconic silhouettes in the Seiko universe. Originally designed as a functional tool to accompany adventure and demanding environments, its purposeful aesthetic quickly became a benchmark among enthusiasts seeking accessible sports watches.

With the SRPL77K1, Seiko retains the essential codes of this icon: a marked unidirectional bezel, generously luminescent indexes and a crown positioned at 4 o’clock. Today, however, these elements are adapted to a 38 mm midsize format—more versatile, more contemporary and perfectly aligned with modern wearing habits.

The Seiko 5 Sports SRPL77K1 asserts its personality through a denim-blue dial, a shade inspired by everyday urban life: asphalt streets, neighborhood cafés, skateparks and streetwear silhouettes. This blue, both familiar and contemporary, pairs naturally with casual style—jeans, sneakers, light jackets—while preserving the sporty DNA of the SKX lineage.

The unidirectional bezel features a deeper blue tone, creating a subtle contrast that visually structures the watch. Applied indexes and hands generously coated with LumiBrite ensure optimal legibility in daylight as well as in low-light conditions.

Its 38 mm stainless steel case marks the long-awaited return of a more compact format within the Seiko 5 Sports range. With a balanced thickness and carefully considered ergonomics—particularly thanks to the 4 o’clock crown—the watch offers excellent wearing comfort while maintaining a strong sporty presence.

At the heart of the Seiko 5 Sports SRPL77K1 beats the in-house Seiko 4R36 calibre, an automatic movement renowned for its robustness and proven reliability.

Developed and assembled internally by Seiko, it operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and features 24 jewels. It delivers a power reserve of approximately 40 hours—ideal for daily wear without constraint.

The 4R36 also offers:

• Automatic winding via rotor
• Manual winding capability
• Stop-seconds (hacking) function for precise time-setting
• Day-date display at 3 o’clock
