The Story

Historically tied to the Italian Navy, Officine Panerai built its reputation on the robustness and exceptional legibility of its diving watches. In 2009, the Florentine manufacture opened a new chapter in its history by presenting the P.9000 family of calibres at the SIHH — movements entirely conceived and produced in-house. This milestone firmly established Panerai among the select group of watchmakers capable of manufacturing their own movements.

Among them, the P.9001 calibre stands out with its three-day power reserve, bidirectional automatic winding, and independent GMT hand. It powers the Luminor 1950 PAM00320, a contemporary evolution of the iconic design originally created for Italian Navy divers in the 1950s.

Featuring the celebrated Luminor 1950 case and its patented crown-protecting bridge, the PAM00320 embodies the meeting of Panerai’s technical heritage and modern craftsmanship — a timepiece that remains true to its origins while perfectly illustrating the brand’s transition into contemporary fine watchmaking.

The Model

With its imposing 44 mm cushion-shaped case in polished and satin-finished stainless steel, the Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Automatic asserts the distinctive identity of Panerai: powerful, functional, and instantly recognizable. Its iconic silhouette, complete with the patented crown guard, stays faithful to the diving watches designed for Italian commandos in the 1950s, while displaying a refined, contemporary finish.

Beneath its domed sapphire crystal, the PAM00320 reprises Panerai’s signature codes: a black “sandwich” dial composed of two superimposed plates, the lower one coated with luminescent material to ensure flawless legibility, day or night. This emblematic structure is enhanced here by a 12-hour GMT hand, allowing the reading of a second time zone — a discreet, ingenious complication that can be perfectly hidden beneath the hour hand when not in use. The date window at 3 o’clock and the small seconds at 9 o’clock complete a clear, balanced, and instantly recognizable display.

At its heart beats the in-house calibre P.9001, an automatic movement entirely designed and built by Panerai. It features two barrels providing a 72-hour power reserve, indicated on the back by a circular display. Its Glucydur® balance oscillates at 28,800 vibrations per hour, protected by an Incabloc® shock-absorption system. Among its refinements are a seconds-reset mechanism for precise time setting and a smooth, silent bidirectional winding system.

Mounted on a leather strap with a stainless steel pin buckle, this Luminor 1950 combines Italian elegance with an adventurous spirit. Water-resistant to 300 meters, it remains above all a true instrument watch — faithful to Panerai’s motto: *Laboratorio di Idee*.

It comes with its original box, manual, and Panerai warranty card dated 2012.
