A French Story

Production of the Type 18 calibre began in 1935, just before the outbreak of World War II. During the conflict, the company relocated to central France, then further south to Valence. After the war, LIP returned to Besançon and rebuilt its factory. It was there that the "T18" emerged — a movement of remarkable modernity featuring a small seconds counter. In 1948, a full-gold model was even presented to Sir Winston Churchill as a gift.

The T18 would later be offered in several sizes and versions. However, the C18 is something of a true “Bêtise de Cambrai” from LIP! In fact, the C18 was born from a designer’s mistake, resulting in a square reinterpretation of the T18 case. It retains the famous “Churchill” dial with its distinctive double sunburst horizontal/vertical finish, as well as the faceted hands that give its predecessor such charm.

A symbol of French refinement, the LIP Churchill C18 ref. 671946 continues the legacy of the elegant urban watches of the 1930s. Its 21 × 21 mm stainless steel 316L case, polished and brushed, evokes the Art Deco design so dear to the Besançon manufacture, while adding a discreet, balanced touch of modernity.

Its silver sunray-finished dial subtly captures the light, highlighting the black Arabic numerals and gold hands that ensure clear and elegant legibility. A date window positioned at 6 o’clock adds a functional touch to this harmonious composition, faithful to the timeless charm of the Churchill collection.
