Expanding the Elegance collection was a priority for Grand Seiko in 2019. The Japanese brand has always offered dress watches within its lineup, but it wasn't until the SBGK series debuted, that this collection really caught on with the brand's fans. Initially, this line only featured watches in precious metals, but this SBGK009 changed the game when it was launched, being one of the only versions offered in steel. A real success!

Like all Grand Seiko watches, this watch embodies the beauty and tranquility of traditional Japan. It features a curved case with a diameter of 39 mm and a domed sapphire crystal. The classicism of these dimensions is reinforced by the careful design and exceptional finishing characteristic of the manufacture's products: beautifully worked case, alternating satin surfaces, Zaratsu polishing and balanced proportions.

On the dial side, we find a "dark grey" color that plays easily with the light to offer an incomparable depth. It is topped with multi-faceted applied hour markers and a sharp-edged pointer, the minute hand being curved to follow the curve of the domed sapphire crystal. The layout of the dial is also new, with the classic large seconds hand disappearing in favor of a small seconds hand positioned in a register at 9 o'clock, echoed at 3 o'clock by a discreet power reserve indicator that balances the dial..

Finally, let's focus on its strap. Fans of vintage Grand Seiko will certainly appreciate its design. Its design is inspired by many Grand Seiko bracelets of the 1970s: it is composed of 9 polished and brushed links, making it very pleasant to wear. A real jewel on the wrist.

A Manufacture calibre

On the movement side, we find the 9S63 caliber. This hand-wound movement with small seconds at 9 o'clock and power reserve indicator at 3 o'clock beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. Equipped with 33 jewels, it offers a power reserve of 72 hours and a precision of +5/-3s per day. These values immediately place it in the big league. It is also finished according to the usual Grand Seiko criteria: Tokyo ribs, blued screws and gold engravings. A very successful finish!

The Package

This Grand Seiko is in near-mint condition. Purchased in August 2025, it will be delivered as a Full Set, with its original box and all accompanying papers. This SBGK009 has been authenticated and inspected by our watchmakers and benefits from the Grand Seiko warranty until 2030.
