- Limited edition
With the SRPL93K1, Seiko faithfully revisits the legendary 6119-8460 worn by Gene Kranz during the Apollo 13 debriefing. Featuring a matte black dial, a 38.2 mm steel case, and the automatic caliber 4R36, this limited edition of 9,999 pieces embodies the authentic spirit of the toolwatches of the 1960s.
Seiko 5: An Icon Born in the 1960s
For more than half a century, the Seiko 5 collection has embodied the essence of an affordable and reliable tool watch. Introduced in the mid-1960s, it was built on five technical pillars that would define its reputation: an automatic movement, a day/date display, water resistance, a crown positioned at 4 o’clock, and a durable case. A true gateway into the world of mechanical watches, the Seiko 5 has won over generations of enthusiasts seeking a timepiece that is simple, efficient, and long-lasting.
With the SRPL93K1 reference, Seiko authentically reinterprets the legendary 6119-8460, a tool watch that entered history thanks to Gene Kranz, NASA Flight Director during the Apollo 13 mission.
A Design True to the Original
The SRPL93 faithfully reproduces the exact lines of the model worn by Gene Kranz, featuring a matte black dial that is both understated and legible, in perfect continuity with the utilitarian spirit of the 1960s.
The watch features a 38.2 mm cushion-shaped stainless steel case, perfectly proportioned to preserve its vintage charm, paired with a crown at 4 o’clock and drilled lugs. The signature bidirectional rotating bezel of the original model has been authentically recreated, while the box-shaped Hardlex crystal enhances the watch’s retro aesthetic.
The matte black dial is animated by a distinctive paddle-shaped seconds hand. Hands and indexes are coated with Lumibrite, ensuring optimal legibility in all conditions. True to the 1960s model, the calendar display retains its unique detail: the day appears in black while the date is shown in white.
A Robust and Reliable Mechanism
Inside beats the automatic caliber 4R36, a proven movement that combines simplicity and reliability. Equipped with manual winding and stop-seconds, it offers a 41-hour power reserve and accuracy in line with Seiko’s standards. Water-resistant to 100 meters (10 bar), the SRPL93K1 is built to face everyday life, from urban activities to outdoor adventures.
A Limited Edition with True Meaning
Produced in 9,999 numbered pieces, the Seiko 5 Sports SRPL93K1 pays tribute to a key episode in the history of space exploration and to the essential role played by Gene Kranz. Delivered in a special presentation box that echoes the aesthetic codes of the original packaging, it appeals both to collectors of historic watches and to enthusiasts of human adventure.
With its accessible price and authentic character, this limited edition combines historical value, robustness, and vintage charm, embodying the spirit of a true tool watch.
